Construction has now begun
A fence has been erected around the construction site on Laksegade, which is now buzzing with life as construction is in full swing.
The fence was fully in place at the beginning of April, marking the start of construction. A project that will take the street’s historic buildings and more than 400 years of history into a new chapter. Now the work awaits to transform the 16 buildings in the project and a total of 50,200 square meters into a new neighborhood in the city. A task that Project Director Glenn Jaes has been looking forward to.
“We’ve been preparing and counting down to the start of construction and we’re very happy to be underway. For those of us who have worked with construction for many years, this is a unique task. The Laksegade neighborhood is full of history and fantastic architecture, and it’s a very special construction site we have established here, where we are surrounded by history in every corner of the project,” says Glenn Jaes.
Interior demolition and environmental remediation
The first part of the project is the so-called soft strip, the light demolition of interior surfaces and installations, and the team on site is already well advanced with this part.
“Right now we’re in the middle of the soft strip, which can best be described as an interior demolition. We are removing partitions, suspended ceilings, floors, various fixtures and fittings and installations. The aim is to make the buildings ready for rebuilding and transformation, while at the same time preserving the many fine details that will be carried forward into the new chapter,” says Glenn Jaes.
Work in the near future
According to Glenn Jaes, they have already come a long way with soft strip in the building at Bremerholm 33 and Laksegade 11. He estimates that the total interior demolition will be completed in late summer. The main points of the construction schedule for the coming period are as follows:
- Soft strip is expected to be completed in late summer/autumn
- This will be followed by the heavy demolition of the interior and dismantling of facades on the Bremerholm 33 building
- It is expected that a turnkey contractor will be hired during the summer and will start the reconstruction in the fall and towards December
Traffic in the area
The construction site is located in central Copenhagen, and according to Glenn Jaes, it is inevitable that such a large construction project will have an impact on traffic.
“We are exploring all possibilities to minimize the inconvenience as much as possible and are in continuous dialogue with the City of Copenhagen about traffic conditions. Together with the municipality, we take note of the situation on Bremerholm in particular, which can be challenging at times, and do what we can to be considerate,” says Glenn Jaes.
