The engineering consultant: “We look forward to making a mark on an iconic part of the city”
EKJ has been chosen as engineering consultant and thus part of the team that will transform the historic buildings into Laksegade Kvarteret.
Many people know the area best as Danske Bank’s former headquarters by Holmens Kanal. But even though the location is in the heart of Copenhagen and one of the best in the country, for close to 150 years it has felt like a closed corner of the city. Now the doors are opening again, and the city is being invited back. Thylander A/S is managing the project on behalf of the owners and in collaboration with architects, engineers, authorities and other partners.
Among the partners is EKJ, which has been chosen as engineering consultant for the first part of the project. EKJ will help transform the buildings into office space, retail and hotel – while respecting the buildings’ preservation-worthy character. A task that will be difficult and therefore exciting, says Claus Christensen, Project Manager at EKJ.
“This is a complex technical and structural task, where modern comfort must fit into the old framework. Several buildings are listed, and we must preserve the old, beautiful spaces while creating space for installations, fixed locations and corridors. We need to incorporate ventilation, installations, stairs and elevators without compromising the historic spaces. We are proud to help shape the future of this iconic part of the city,” says Claus Christensen.
